Tramadol 50mg

Tramadol 50mg is an opioid analgesic that is used as a medication for moderate to moderately severe pain. The dosage of Tramadol is based on the condition of the patient and the response of the patient to the treatment. Normally, doctors start off by recommending small doses of the drug and then increase eventually as the body adapts to the treatment. 400 mg is the maximum recommended dose of Tramadol, which is further reduced to 300 mg for patients above the age of 75. Tramadol can be combined with other drugs as well. However, you should always consult your doctor or pharmacist before doing so.

Tramadol 50mg dosing information:

Usual Adult Dose for Anxiety:

Adults (17 years or older): 50 to 100 mg orally every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain
-For patients not requiring rapid onset of analgesic effect: Initial dose: 25 mg orally once a day; titrate in 25 mg increments every 3 days to reach a dose of 25 mg 4 times per day; thereafter increase by 50 mg as tolerated every 3 days.

Maximum dose: 400 mg per day

  • Doses should be individualized; for patients not needing rapid analgesia, tolerability can be increased with slow dose titration.
  • The US FDA cautions against the use of tramadol 50mg in patients; product labeling for immediate-release products describes adult patients as being 17 decades or older.
  • Tramadol 50 mg shouldn’t be used postoperatively in patients up to 18 years following tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy or in adolescents up to 18 years who are obese or have conditions that can increase the possible risk of breathing problems.

Use: For the management of pain severe enough to take an analgesic and for which remedies are inadequate.

Usual Adult Dose for Chronic Pain:
Extended-Release (ER):

18 years or older (tramadol 50 mg-naive): 100 mg orally once a day
-Individually titrate every 5 days to a dose which reduces adverse reactions
-Maximum Dose: 300 mg/day

For patients CURRENTLY getting Immediate-Release (IR) Tramadol 50 mg:
Initial Dose: Calculate 24-hour IR requirement and initiate with a total daily ER dose rounded down to the next lowest 100 mg increment orally once a day

Conversion from OTHER Opioids: Discontinue all other around the clock opioid drugs prior to initiating therapy
-Initial dose: 100 mg ER orally once a day
-Individually titrate every 5 days to a dose which reduces adverse reactions
-Maximum Dose: 300 mg/day

-Due to limitations of dose selection with ER formulations, some patients might not be able to convert from the IR to ER.
-The ER products should not be used with a few other tramadol 50mg products and should not be taken more frequently than once a day.
-Monitor patients closely for respiratory depression, especially inside the first 24 to 3 days of therapy and following dose increases.
-For patients with moderate to moderately severe continual pain not requiring rapid onset of analgesic effect, tolerability may be improved by initiating gradually, possibly with the immediate-release product.
-This medication isn’t recommended for patients less than 18 years of age.

Use: For the management of pain severe enough to take around-the-clock long-term opioid treatment for which alternative treatment options are inadequate.
